Some hope that aliens or other godlike creatures will save us from ourselves by intervening at the last moment and preventing nuclear or environmental destruction. Of course, if the aliens are simply researchers from another world or us from the future, benevolent intervention might be against the rules. Whatever the case, it’s a nice fantasy...to imagine that our frighteningly destructive impulses will be handled effectively by a compassionate parental entity (God?). Sadly, I'm unable to take comfort in this fantasy. Try as I might, I’ve never been able to stop worrying and love the bomb.
